De Lightning Ridge a Pedigree Dynamics Mating

In winning the Challenge Stakes on 13th March, De Lightning Ridge (Tale of the Cat - Nanny Maroon) smashed a 35 year track record, scooting over the 1000 metres in 55.92 seconds. De Lightning Ridge is the product of a Pedigree Dynamics '9/10' rated mating. Back in 2003, Nanny Maroon’s part owner Peter Wynne asked us to assess the proposed mating of Nanny Maroon with Tale of the Cat. To quote from our original report; This mating creates some strong line breeding and pattern repetition. Nijinsky II is duplicated 5f x 4m. This ‘sex balancing’ helps to create a positive environment for speed inheritance. The five lines to Native Dancer are joined by fellow LA CHICA family member What a Pleasure on Tale of the Cat’s fourth remove. Tale of the Cat is a direct descendant of Monarchy, who is a full sister to Round Table (damsire of Caerleon in Nanny Maroon’s pedigree). A pattern repetition is created here, where these full relations are linked with Nijinsky II in both Caerleon and State, third dam of Tale of the Cat. Nijinsky II's Northern Dancer / Bull Page cross is repeated in Storm Bird. De Lightning Ridge just might be the one to give Pedigree Dynamics our next Group One winner! (photo Sportpix.com.au)
