The Mikado Scoops the Strada Stakes

Exciting Danehill Dancer colt The Mikado proved too good for his rivals in the Strada Stakes, run in March. Scoring by nearly 2 lengths, he beat smart Redoute's Choice filly Zingaling (subsequently winner of the P.J. Bell Stakes), with Hussonet colt Hus Der Lieften another half length away in third. The Mikado is part owned by Pedigree Dynamics Principal Jane Henning and her husband Dik and raced with friends and clients. A handsome brown out of a daughter of Caulfield Guineas winner Princess Talaria, The Mikado showed his dislike to the wet ground at his following start in the Darby Munro and it was decided to spell him for the winter season. 'Down the track', The Mikado hopes to follow in the footsteps of other Tim Martin trained colts Exceed and Excel, Murtajill, Gonski, Redoute's Dancer and co in impressing sufficiently enough to secure a place at stud. HOOFNOTE: A Fastnet Rock 3/4 brother to The Mikado topped the first session of the National Yearling Sale 6th June on a bid of $400,000. He will be trained in Melbourne by Mark Kavanagh.
